Primal instinct...

This description, taken from a pregnancy site, is all me right now...

Around the fifth month of pregnancy, the "nesting" instinct can set in. This is an uncontrollable urge to clean one's house brought on by a desire to prepare a nest for the new baby, to tie up loose ends of old projects and to organize your world.

Females of the animal kingdom are all equipped with this same need. It is a primal instinct. Just as you see birds making their nests, mothers-to-be do exactly the same thing. The act of nesting puts you in control and gives a sense of accomplishment toward birth. You may become a homebody and want to retreat into the comfort of home and familiar company, like a brooding hen. The nesting urge can also be seen as a sign of the onset of labor when it occurs close to 40 weeks of pregnancy.

Nesting brings about some unique and seemingly irrational behaviors in pregnant women and all of them experience it differently. Women have reported throwing away perfectly good sheets and towels because they felt the strong need to have "brand new, clean" sheets and towels in their home. (Funny I just thought, "I want to get two new fluffy white towels for the bathroom to match the new shower curtain that I had to get NOW.")

They have also reported doing things like taking apart the knobs on kitchen cupboards, just so they could disinfect the screws attached to the knobs. Women have discussed taking on cleaning their entire house, armed with a toothbrush. There seems to be no end to the lengths a nesting mother will go to prepare for her upcoming arrival.

*Today my primal instinct told me to fill the nail holes in the walls and cover them with touch-up paint. And that was only the beginning.

*Photo thanks to Mase, and explains why I don't have a head.

I totally know that nesting feeling. I definitely have that for almost all of my pregnancies. I think with each it got progressively worse. I think because I had more unfinished projects. Good luck with getting all of those crazy things done. Give me a call if you want some help.

Maybe you could come "nest" in my house for a while and tie up some of the loose ends. Your place always loose great to me. I do know the feeling though. I think I have them when I'm not pregnant too!

I have already gone through that once, and I'm not even 5 mos yet...YIKES! Don't you know you aren't supposed to play with paint when you're pregnant? I had to buy some tupperware to add to my pantry because it just looked horrible (and since it's really just a shelf I have to look at it all the time) but now it is nice and organized. I feel like I need to get the crib together and I want to go through everything, but I can't because it's all at mom and dad's...I have to keep reminding myself that July 2nd is still a long ways off

I was just talking to Randy about nesting and said,"why don't I get the cleaning/orgainizing/decorating stuff done now when I'm not huge so it's not so hard at the end?" We'll see how it goes. But it is a novel idea!

How fun you look great and I know the feeling. Maybe I will have to have another kid so I can get my house in order. I wish I was there to scrub your tub again!
